Strategies For Craps
In Craps you have a truly random game; you don't know how long the shooter will play (his/her turn can last one roll or can go on for 10, 20 or even more rolls) and each roll of the dice is independent of the last roll, unlike a game like Blackjack where you know what cards have been played and are not available for use until the decks are reshuffled. Keeping this in mind, the best strategy is likely to start out slowly and bet conservatively. Then if you win, and increase your bankroll, you can decide if you want to bet more aggressively using your winnings.

The most basic of strategies is to reduce the house edge as much as possible. To this end this always take (or lay) Odds bets, a Odds wager of equal value to your original bet reduces the casino's advantage on Pass Line, Don't Pass, Come and Don't Come bets from 1.4% to 0.85%. If you wager even more on the Odds bet you can reduce the house edge even more.

The dream of every Craps player is to use the winnings from previous wagers (the casinos money) to win even more. Here are some press-up strategies that are used:

The Slow Press system adds the winnings to your original bet in order to increase your take. For this system to work you need to win a minimum of four times. You risk more but your potential winnings are greater.

Assume you make a $12 Place bet on the 8 (6 and 8 have the greatest chance of being thrown after the 7) if you win your payoff is $14 (it pays 7 to 6). Once the shooter has the Point you make your Place bet on the eight and use the following system;

1st win - Win $14 - Keep $ 2 - Press to $24
2nd win - Win $28 - Keep $ 4 - Press to $48
3rd win - Win $56 - Keep $44 - Press to $60
4th win - Win $70 - Keep $70 - Stay at $60

After this the shooter sevens out and you lose $60. You have winnings of $120, and a loss of $60 for a net gain of $60. If the shooter continues to throw eights then you win even more with no greater risk to you.

The Level Press is similar to the Slow press, but with less risk. Success using this system can be achieved with as little as two rolls.

Assume you make a $12 Place bet on the 8 (6 and 8 have the greatest chance of being thrown after the 7) if you win your payoff is $14 (it pays 7 to 6). Once the shooter has the Point you make your Place bet on the eight and use the following system;

1st win - Win $14 - Keep $ 2 - Press to $24
2nd win - Win $28 - Keep $28 - Stay at $24

After this the shooter sevens out and you lose $24. You have winnings of $30, and a loss of $24 for a net gain of $6. If the shooter continues to throw eights then you win even more with no greater risk to you.
